One of Tanzania’s major telecom companies says internet services are back up after a severe three-day outage. Vodacom Tanzania said in a statement on Wednesday that its network had been fully restored and that all customers who were unable to utilise their bundles during the period will be fully refunded.
Tanzania and the French territory of Mayotte experienced the most severe impact from the outage, with connectivity dropping to below 30% of expected levels following the Sunday morning disruption.
The poor connectivity led the United States Embassy in Tanzania to close for two days and reschedule consular appointments.
The outage was also felt in most of East Africa as Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda were also hit, albeit less severely.
The service disruption was caused by a cut to two undersea cables carrying the data around Africa.
