A well-known Ibadan-based broadcaster, Peter Olasupo, has been summoned by the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL) over allegations of criminal defamation and cyberstalking.
According to a statement shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, Olasupo is expected to appear at the force headquarters on Shehu Shagari Way, Garki, Abuja.
Olasupo disclosed that he initially received the official letter on December 30, 2024 but successfully had his appearance rescheduled to Monday, January 13, 2025.
The letter, titled “Investigation Activities/Invitation Letter,” informed him of an investigation into the allegations, prompting him to seek legal counsel.
“Upon receiving the letter, my boss contacted our lawyer, Barrister Yomi Ogunlola, who responded on my behalf, resulting in the rescheduled appearance,” Olasupo explained.
Expressing his concerns, he questioned the necessity of reporting to Abuja instead of a more accessible location, such as the Oyo State Command or Lagos office.
He also raised issues regarding travel costs, safety concerns, and logistical support, jokingly asking if INTERPOL would provide allowances or even a police helicopter for the trip.
Despite these concerns, Olasupo pledged full cooperation with the investigation, asserting his innocence. He reassured his audience that his professionalism and commitment to truth remain unwavering.
“Who reported me to INTERPOL? Why INTERPOL? I am innocent of these allegations, and I will ensure the truth prevails,” he stated.
