The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has set up inquiry into the immediate and remote causes of a fire that flared up at its Kurima House offices on Thursday.

Initial findings suggests that the inferno could have been started by an electrical fault or deliberately by someone who wanted to destroy some documents.

In a statement, ZIMRA’s Corporate Affairs Executive, Gladman Njanji, said there was no loss of life or injuries. He said:

“ZIMRA wishes to inform stakeholders and the public that there has been a fire incident on one of the floors at our Kurima House offices in Harare, which has since been contained.”

“The fire was easily contained using internal firefighting equipment and the Fire Brigade came just in time when the fire was put out. All members of staff were safely evacuated.”

Investigations, on the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage, are on going and a statement will be issued in due course.
