Investors Lose N15Bln on Nigerian Bourse

NGX - Nigerian Exchange Loses ₦9Bln

The Nigerian Exchange Ltd. (NGX) closed trading on Friday with a decline of 0.06 percent in market capitalisation to N25.475 trillion.

In comparison with the N25.490 trillion recorded on Thursday, investors lost N15 billion from their net worth.

The NGX All Share Index fell 0.06 per cent to 47,268.61 points, down from 47,296.07 points recorded on Thursday.

A total of 179.327 million shares worth N7.123 billion were traded in 4,654 deals. In comparison, 370.543 million shares worth N7.853 billion changed hands in 6,045 transactions on Thursday.

In the price movement chart, 19 stocks gained in price while 20 others depreciated.

With a loss of 9.4 per cent, Royal Exchange Assurance closed at N1.35 as the day’s biggest loser.

MCNICHOLS fell by 9.09 per cent to close at 70 kobo, while Lasaco lost 8.85 per cent to close at N1.03.

An eight per cent decline in Niger Insurance resulted in a close of 23 kobo; a four per cent decline in Chams resulted in a close of 23 kobo; a three per cent drop in Mutual Benefits Assurance resulted in a close of 25 kobo.

UACN lost 0.31 per cent to close at N9.30, while Wema Bank lost 2.11 per cent to close at 93 kobo.

The stock of Unilever fell 2.07 per cent to close at N14.20, while Unity Bank shed two per cent to close at 49 kobo.

Meanwhile, John Holt, who led the gainers’ chart, gained 8.86 per cent to close at 86 kobo.

Linkage Assurance rose 7.41 per cent to close at 58 kobo, while Royal Insurance gained 7.69 per cent to close at 42 kobo.

CHI Plc gained 5.36 per cent to close at 59 kobo, while UCAP gained 5.30 per cent to close at N13.90.

Sovereign Insurance and Multiverse each added 4.35 per cent to close at 24 kobo.

In second place, Jamiz Bank closed at 77 kobo with a 4.05 per cent gain.

In the same vein, FCMB gained 3.33per cent to close at N1.90 kobo, while International Breweries gained 3.01per cent to finish at N5.

A total of 13.012 million shares worth N344.959 million were exchanged by Zenith Bank Plc during the day.

The First Bank of Nigeria Holdings Plc (FBNH) trades 12.765 million shares valued at N142.089 million, while the UCAP group trades 10.105 million shares valued at N140.066 million.

In second place, First City Monument Bank (FCMB) held 25.02 million shares worth N84.45 million.

N5.819 million worth of shares were exchanged by Courtville.
