IPOB Sit-at-Home Order Grounds Activities in South-East Nigeria

Activities have been grounded in some states in South-East Nigeria as residents follow the sit-at-home order of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a pro-secessionist group in the region.

Leader of the group, Nnamdi Kanu had announced residents to sit-at-home as a mark of respect for the victims of the 1967 Biafra war which took millions of lives.

Some of the states where the order was followed are Abia, Anambra and Ebonyi. Some notable markets were shut while some of the busiest roads in the region were vacated.

The order has been a source of contention between the state governments and IPOB which has been proscribed by the Nigerian government. Some state governments have since turned around to show their backing for the order.

There have been waves of attacks on people and state-owned facilities in recent weeks with the Police blaming IPOB for masterminding the violence in the region.

In several reactions on Twitter, photos of the halting of activities were shared. Major highways were deserted and economic activities were completely grounded in some parts of the region.
