Israel Blocks Call to Friday Prayer at Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron

Israeli occupation forces have prevented the call to Friday prayer from being broadcast from the minarets of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron, located in the occupied West Bank. They also obstructed access for Palestinians wishing to pray at the site on Friday.

Ghassan Al-Rajabi, the director of the Hebron Awqaf (Islamic Endowments), informed the WAFA news agency that occupation forces banned the adhan (call to prayer) and forced many worshippers to pray outside in the mosque’s courtyard. According to reports, this incident marks the 23rd consecutive occasion that the adhan has been prohibited at the mosque.

Al-Rajabi further stated that Israeli troops stationed at nearby military checkpoints conducted searches of citizens and their identification documents.

On the previous day, Israeli forces closed the Ibrahimi Mosque and intensified repressive measures against residents of the Old City, preventing employees from the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs from entering under the pretext of Jewish holidays.

Each year, the Israeli authorities fully close the Ibrahimi Mosque for ten days, citing religious holidays, thereby denying Palestinian worshippers their right to pray at this significant Muslim site.
