Israeli Military Confirms July Strike Killed Hamas Chief Mohammed Deif

The Israeli military confirmed Thursday that Mohammed Deif, the long-time head of the Hamas military wing, was killed in an airstrike in Gaza in July.

The strike took place on July 13, targeting a compound on the outskirts of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

The attack also killed over 90 other people, including displaced civilians in nearby tents, according to Gaza health officials.

The Israeli military announced on Thursday that, following an intelligence assessment, it could confirm Deif’s death in the strike.

Deif, one of the founding members of the Qassam Brigades in the 1990s, had been a key figure in Hamas’ resistance against Israel for decades.

Under his leadership, the Qassam Brigades carried out numerous bombings against occupying Israeli forces and developed a significant arsenal of rockets capable of striking deep into Israel.
