Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made his first appearance in court on Tuesday in Tel Aviv to testify regarding his corruption case.
As the first sitting prime minister in Israel to undergo a criminal trial, Netanyahu has consistently attempted to postpone his court appearance. He is facing accusations of bribery, fraud, and breach of public trust across three distinct cases.
Outside the courthouse, anti-Netanyahu protesters and his supporters gathered, while several right-wing lawmakers were present at the session, which took place in a secure underground chamber.
The last time he was physically present in court was in June 2023, before the onset of the war that began with Israel’s attack on October 7, 2023.
“I will address the court. I am not avoiding this,” the prime minister said at a press conference on Monday evening.
