An Israeli security leak scandal involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took a new turn as a suspect’s lawyer alleged Netanyahu received classified documents. The case centres around leaked files shared with German newspaper Bild two months ago by an employee in Netanyahu’s office, reportedly to sway public opinion against a possible prisoner swap with Palestinian groups in Gaza.
The leaked documents allegedly implied that the late Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, opposed a prisoner swap or ceasefire agreement, adding fuel to accusations against Netanyahu for blocking such negotiations.
Israeli authorities have arrested five individuals connected to the leak, including four soldiers and Eliezer Feldstein, a Netanyahu staff member. Netanyahu has denied involvement, yet Michael Fetman, representing one suspect, claims his client was informed that Netanyahu “wants more information” on the matter, with a full day cleared to address it.
Fetman noted his client had no prior contact with Feldstein and was directed to him for secure communication with the Prime Minister’s office. It remains unclear whether Feldstein acted independently or under direct orders from Netanyahu.
According to The Jerusalem Post, if confirmed, these developments could implicate Netanyahu more directly in the investigation.
