An Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, killed five people on Sunday, including a senior Hamas figure, according to Palestinian medics and the militant group.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported that the strike hit the hospital’s surgery department.
Israel’s military stated that the attack was based on “extensive intelligence” and was carried out with “precise munitions to minimise harm at the site.”

Hamas confirmed that Ismail Barhoum, a member of its political office, was among those killed. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz also identified Barhoum as the intended target. However, the Israeli military did not name him directly, referring only to “a key terrorist in Hamas.”
The strike comes after Israel intensified its air and ground operations in Gaza on Tuesday, effectively ending a two-month period of relative calm. The renewed offensive has prompted another wave of mass displacement in the region.
