News Central has gathered that ISWAP terrorists have demanded a $16, 750 ransom to release 13 locals who were abducted during an onslaught on Goré Kendi village in Cameroon.

Sources disclose that the victims had been kept hostage by ISWAP since June 30. Their community is located in the town of Blangoua, which is part of the Logone-et-Chari department and borders Lake Chad

Locals informed reporters that in addition to abducting the citizens, the terrorists also carted their possessions away.

In the same region, Jama’atu Ahlussunnah Liddaawati Wal Jihad, JAS, militants carried out a separate attack at the same time.

While two persons were killed in the Waza, Logone and Chari region the same night, others sustained injuries.

Between Chad to the east and Nigeria to the west is where the Far North of Cameroon is located. Insurgents are active in the area and have attacked settlements that serve as a bridge between the three nations.

Boko Haram, which has been attacking in the Far North of Cameroon, swore loyalty to ISWAP up until 2015.

ISWAP took conquered the Lake Chad basin in 2021, but not before it assassinated a resolute Boko Haram leader and exiled some of its members to outlying regions.

According to a report from the United Nations office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), as nearly 10,000 individuals fled their homes between January and May 2023, there have been more attacks in the country by non-state armed groups.

To repel terrorist attacks, some villages have formed vigilante organisations. In an effort to stop terrorist assaults, the United Nations Development Programme has also just provided bicycles, megaphones, and first aid kits to vigilante group members.
