Some Boko Haram insurgents were attacked by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) as they attempted to flee the military bombing in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria. On the outskirts of Lake Chad, the military has intensified its raids against militants.

Recall how a military assault resulted in the deaths of over 200 Boko Haram members and their commanders, and how flooding forced some insurgents to flee to Borno state’s east of Konduga Local Government Area.

Some of the assailants had taken refuge in Cina village in the state’s Bama Local Government Area, but sources claim that they were attacked there.

According to Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad, the military operations caused hundreds of terrorists and their families to flee their camps in search of safe havens elsewhere.

“They were in their hundreds; many of them without clothes or shoes. Only few of them were holding arms. They had only four motorcycles, with two conveying their commanders. They looked very tired; some had their clothes soaked by rain.

“When the ISWAP fighters saw that there were women and children in their midst, they decided to allow Boko Haram continue their journey. Shortly after they were given the chance, they moved toward the axis of Bulabulin,” he said.

At least 250 insurgents have been killed recently by the 199 Special Forces Battalion, 222 Battalion, Civilian Joint Task Force, and Air Task Force Operation, Hadin Kai.
