Ivory Coast defender Sol Bamba has been ruled out for the rest of the season after damaging knee ligaments while in action for his English Premier League side Cardiff City.
In a statement by the club, Cardiff manager Neil Warnock said “Unfortunately our biggest fears have been confirmed regarding the injury Sol suffered at Wolves on Saturday”
“Scans have shown that Sol has ruptured his ACL; he will have an operation on Wednesday and therefore miss the rest of the season. It is a major blow to the squad but I know all of our supporters will join me in wishing him the very best during his recovery.”
The defender also took to social media to confirm the news.
“It is with great sadness that I have to leave my team-mates for the rest of the season,” Bamba’s injury means he will miss June’s Africa Cup of Nations for the Ivory Coast, who already have a fitness concern over Levante midfielder Cheick Doukoure.
