Ivorian Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko who had been battling terminal cancer and hospitalised in a German hospital died on Wednesday.
Bakayoko, 56 had terminal cancer and was recently moved from an American Hospital in Paris to a German hospital in Freiburg on Saturday, to undergo an experimental treatment.
President Alassane Ouattara bemoaned his loss, while announcing the passing on Twitter:
“I have the immense sorrow to announce to you the death of Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko this Wednesday, 10 March, in Germany following cancer”,
Ouattara extolled him as “a great statesman, a model for the youth, a personality of great generosity and exemplary loyalty”.
Bakayoko recently contracted coronavirus and malaria. During his initial stay in Paris, he had completed series of medical tests at the American Hospital without a specific diagnosis.
Alassane Ouattara visited the prime minister on March 3 in Paris. Bakayoko was Ouattara’s closest ally and was made Prime Minister in July 2020.

Few days ago, Ouattara replaced his Prime Minister with an interim Prime Minister, Patrick Achi who was until then his close confidant and Chief of Staff.
