‘Iyanu Child of Wonder’ Animated Series Greenlit at Cartoon Network (News Central TV)

Iyanu: Child of Wonder, the graphic novel by Nigerian creator Roye Okupe and illustrator Godwin Akpan is taking a new face.

A 2D adaptation of the 2017 novel has been green-lit by HBO Max alongside Cartoon Network and Lion Forge Animation.

While the graphic novel is set in the magical version of Yorubaland, the series will follow a teenage girl who must uncover the mystery behind her newfound superpowers to save her people from an ancestral curse threatening to destroy mankind.

Directed by two-time Emmy winner, Saxton Moore, the Nigerian animated superhero series will also parade Nigeria’s rich culture, music, and mythology.

Iyanu: Child Of Wonder is an epic superhero tale themed around Nigeria’s rich history, lore and mythology. Set in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland, the series follows a teenage orphan girl, Iyanu, who spends her time mastering ancient Yoruba arts and culture yet yearns for a normal life.
