Jacob Zuma’s daughter, Nomcebo Zuma, is officially the 16th wife of the King of Eswatini.
The ceremony was held on Monday at the Ludzidzini royal village in Lobamba and over 5000 people gathered to witness the union.
The 21-year-old daughter of South Africa’s former president was seen performing the reed dance, a traditional rite of womanhood in which young women bare their chests and dance for the monarch.
Some women who dance for the 56-year-old king are called liphovela— the royal fiancee or concubine. They adorn themselves with anklets and thick, colourful tassels while carrying mock swords and shields.
Nomcebo Zuma was born into a polygamous family, as her father, Jacob Zuma, had numerous wives and more than 20 children. He held the position of President of South Africa from 2009 to 2018 until his African National Congress party compelled him to resign following a series of corruption allegations.
