The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has called on striking Lecturers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to reconsider their stance on the ongoing strike.
JAMB appealed to ASUU to consider the plight of Nigerian students who have been stuck for months at home with no hope of progressing in their academic pursuit.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede made the appeal during an event at the University of Ilorin, adding that the action was uncalled for.
Oloyede said the frequent strikes by the university lecturers were not in the interest of the students, as it was causing more damages them, and also promoting economic backwardness in the country.
“While acknowledging the fact that the primary responsibility of reasonable funding of public health and education institutions lies on the proprietors-the Government, may I seize this opportunity to call on the employers, university-based labour unions to appreciate the irreparable damage of incessant strikes on not just the students but also the nation,” he stated.
It has been over 4 months since ASUU embarked on strike on February 14, 2022, following the government’s inability to meet their demands and conditions for resumption of schools.
