Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has talked candidly about his medical crisis from the previous year, stating that he suffered a stroke after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
In a Tuesday Netflix special titled “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was,” the Hollywood star talked about his health issues from the previous year.
It’s a mystery, he declared. “The specifics of what happened to me are still unknown.”
On April 11, I asked my boy for an aspirin since I was suffering from a severe headache. He added, “And I quickly realised that your boys don’t know what the f**k to do when you’re in a medical emergency.”
“I went out before I could get the aspirin,” he said. “I can’t recall twenty days.”
Foxx thanked his sister for driving him around Atlanta in search of a hospital, describing her as “4 feet 11 of nothing but pure love.”
The actor claimed that when they arrived at Piedmont Hospital, a doctor informed them that Foxx would not survive an operation because he was suffering from a brain haemorrhage that had resulted in a stroke.
Foxx recalled that following the procedure, physicians stated that while he might fully recover, “it’s going to be the worst year of his life.”
According to Foxx, his family kept him out of the spotlight because he was “so dizzy” that his head would bob around, and his daughter was worried that if people saw his condition, they would make him into an online meme.
He recalls being in a wheelchair and unable to walk when he woke up on May 4 and responding in disbelief when his friend informed him that he had suffered a stroke.
Jamie Foxx doesn’t get strokes, the actor recalled.
He claims that after being transported to Chicago for treatment, he was advised to stop acting “arrogant” if he wanted to fully recover.
While filming a Netflix movie in Atlanta in April 2023, the actor experienced an unspecified health problem that sent him to the hospital.
In line with his preference for secrecy, those close to the actor remained mostly silent about his condition, despite his daughter Corinne Foxx posting on social media that her father had experienced a “medical complication” at the time of his hospitalisation.
Although he did not provide specifics, Foxx addressed the rumours regarding what caused his hospitalisation in an Instagram video update that was published in July 2023.
“To be honest with you, man, I just didn’t want you to see me like that, even though I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates,” he stated in the video. “I want you to see me laughing, having fun, going out, making jokes, acting in a movie, or performing a TV show. The last thing I wanted was for you to see me struggling to survive with tubes coming out of me.”
In August 2023, Foxx posted another health update on his verified social media accounts.
He commented at the time, “You’re looking at a man who is thankful… finally startin’ to feel like myself.” “I can see the light, even though it’s been an unexpectedly dark journey.”
In a video posted to TikTok this past summer, the “Ray” actor explained to a group of well-wishers that his problem started with a “bad headache” and that it was “gone for 20 days.” He admitted in the video that he couldn’t “remember anything.”
