Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has suspended the Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, following an allegation of adultery brought forward by the Kano State Hisbah Board.
The suspension is intended to allow for a transparent investigation into the matter, according to a statement issued by the state’s Secretary to the Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.
The Kano State Hisbah Board claims to have arrested Sankara in an uncompleted building with a married lady –Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
Dr. Abba Sufi, Director General of the board, confirmed the arrest on Friday evening after a complaint from the lady’s brother-in-law. Sankara is also accused of operating illicit drug centres under the names Picklock and 360.
In response, Sankara vehemently denied the accusations. In a statement issued late Friday, the commissioner called the claims “false, baseless, and malicious,” asserting that they were part of a political scheme designed to ruin his reputation.
He restated his respect for the institution of marriage and vowed to take legal action against those he says are responsible for the spread of these falsehoods.
The state government has reiterated that Sankara’s suspension is to facilitate a thorough investigation while maintaining the integrity of the administration. Sankara, on his part, has vowed to clear his name and defend his integrity in court.
