Joe Biden Speaks on Hunter Biden’s Conviction

Hunter Biden Found Guilty on All Counts in Gun Trial

United States President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden has been found guilty of federal gun charges. The verdict marks the first instance where a child of a sitting United States president has been convicted.

Hunter Biden, aged 54, was convicted on all three counts of felony stemming from his 2018 purchase of a handgun while battling crack cocaine addiction.

The timing of the verdict is unfortunate as his father, President Joe Biden, seeks reelection. Joe Biden, who travelled to Wilmington, Delaware, the family’s hometown where the trial took place, expressed his “love and support” for his son in a statement released immediately after the conviction.

“I am the President, but I am also a Dad,” Biden said.
“So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery.
“I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”

Hunter Biden could face up to 25 years in prison but as a first-time offender, the sentence may be low. The date for sentencing will take place soon.
After the verdict, Special Counsel David Weiss, who led the case against Hunter Biden, spoke to reporters saying, “No one in this country is above the law,” Weiss said. “Everyone must be accountable for their actions, even this defendant.”
