A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former executive director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Cairo Ojougboh, slumped and later died while watching the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

He was a former House of Representatives member representing Ika Federal constituency in Delta State, in South-south Nigeria.

Ojougboh was watching the Super Eagles clash with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana when he slumped.

“As soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the AFCON match with South Africa on Wednesday’s semi-final clash in Bouake, Ivory Coast, he slumped,” a source said.

The sad news of his death was confirmed by the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe.

President Bola Tinubu has also sent a condolence message to Ojougboh’s family through a press release signed by his special adviser, Ajuri Ngelale.

He comforted the family and urged them to “find strength and hope in God”, who presides over the affairs of men.
