Residents of Niger State capital, Minna, have taken to the streets to protest the harsh economic reality in the country, blocking highways and vehicular movement in the city.

The protest started when a group of women blocked Minna-Bida Road at the popular Kpakungu Roundabout to lament what they termed the suffering under the Bola Tinubu’s administration. They were later joined by young men stopping vehicular movement.

The protest started when a group of women blocked Minna-Bida Road at the popular Kpakungu Roundabout to lament what they termed the suffering under the Bola Tinubu’s administration. They were later joined by young men stopping vehicular movement.

According to the protesters, the poor efforts made by the government to cushion the difficulties due to the rising cost of food items and other related commodities have led them to block the major roads until their pleas for help are heard.

In a statement issued by the State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, to the protesters in Minna, he said the government is fully aware of the difficult economic situation faced by families at the time.

Garba added that efforts are being made to reduce the high cost of living and the aftermath of the petrol subsidy removal which was made by President Bola Tinubu on the day of his swearing-in.
