JUST IN: Trump Names US Senator JD Vance as Running Mate

Republican candidate Donald Trump has announced Ohio senator JD Vance as his running mate ahead of the 2024 US polls.

The former president announced this on Truth Social, on Monday evening.

“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump wrote

Senator J.D. Vance has witnessed some transformation growth the past eight years from best-selling author and outspoken Trump critic to one of Trump’s strongest defenders and, now, his would-be second in command.

Vance, 39, was known as the author of “Hillbilly Elegy,” a best-selling memoir about his poor family upbringing which served as a sort of sociological examination of white working-class Americans. Published before Trump’s election in 2016, many readers looked to the book after his victory as a sort of guide to understanding Trump’s support among white working-class communities.

Vance harshly denounced Trump during his 2016 campaign. However, in 2022, he had embraced Trump, winning a crowded Republican Senate primary with his support and becoming a reliable pro-Trump voice in Congress.
