Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has presented a proposed budget of N790 billion for 2025, outlining plans to prioritise key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and agriculture.
Speaking to the Kaduna State House of Assembly on Monday, the governor stressed the need for a strategic approach to address financial constraints while meeting the state’s development goals.
The proposed budget sets aside N553 billion for capital projects and N237 billion for recurrent expenses. Of this, education will receive the largest share, with N206.6 billion (26.14%) allocated for initiatives including new school construction, rehabilitation of existing facilities, teacher recruitment, capacity building, and the provision of teaching materials.
Healthcare is the second-highest priority, with N127 billion (16.07%) earmarked to upgrade medical facilities, purchase equipment, and expand mobile healthcare services.
Infrastructure is allocated N106 billion (13.14%), which will fund ongoing road construction, rural electrification projects, and water supply initiatives.
The governor outlined plans to boost agriculture with N74 billion (9.36%) to support innovation, assist smallholder farmers, and promote irrigation and agro-processing.
Security will receive N11.2 billion to enhance the operations of state security agencies and community policing efforts.
Meanwhile, N9.8 billion (1.24%) is designated for social welfare programmes to expand safety nets for vulnerable groups.
Governor Sani urged lawmakers to support the proposed budget, promising close collaboration to achieve the outlined goals.
He also reflected on the achievements of 2024, including the recruitment and training of 7,000 personnel for the Kaduna Vigilance Service, the distribution of security vehicles and motorcycles, and the establishment of a forensic laboratory.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of Kaduna residents while tackling the state’s pressing developmental challenges.
