Tukur Mamu, the publisher of Desert Herald and main negotiator for the release of abductees in the Kaduna-bound train has been arrested and whisked away.

Tukur Mamu was picked by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.

News Central reported how Mamu was arrested in Cairo, capital of Egypt, and returned to Nigeria. The embattled negotiator stated that he was headed for Saudi Arabia when he was arrested and detained in Egypt for 24 hours.

DSS operatives were stationed at the entrance of the international wing of the airport several minutes before the aircraft landed.

The Egypt Air aircraft conveying him and his family members touched down in Kano around 1:55pm.

As passengers began to come out from the arrival section, one of the Toyota Hilux moved forward while luggage belonging to Mamu and his family members were loaded in one of the other two vehicles.

A source at the DSS confirmed that the publisher and his family had indeed been arrested and were headed for Abuja.
