Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, is taking decisive steps to combat climate change, support sustainable development, and improve the healthcare system in the state.
The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Muhammad Shehu, announced a newly approved climate change policy on Friday in Kaduna.
“The 2024 Climate Change Policy addresses the increased extreme weather events and aligns with the National Climate Change Policy (2021-2030).
“Developed with input from various stakeholders and supported by organisations like ACReSAL and Lafiya Projects, this policy aims to reduce emissions, enhance climate resilience, and integrate climate considerations into state planning,” the statement disclosed.
The policy focuses on public education, monitoring systems, and sustainable development initiatives, while the human resources for health policy aims to address gaps in the healthcare workforce and ensure optimal service delivery.
The governor also announced a major overhaul of the state-owned printing department, aimed at increasing efficiency and revenue generation.
This will require all state agencies to rely on the government printing department for their essential printing needs.
News Central reports that climate change is a big problem in Nigeria and around the world. It is caused by human activities and affects health in many ways.
Rising sea levels make flooding worse and spread diseases through water.
Different weather patterns also harm farming. Crops fail more often, making life harder for many families.
Not many studies focus on how climate change affects health risks in Nigeria. But flooding happens a lot and forces many people out of their homes.
Presidential Committee on Climate Action
In May 2024, President Bola Tinubu took a big step to deal with climate change. He set up the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions.
This committee will lead all policies and plans to fight climate change and promote green economic growth.
It will find new ways to tackle climate issues without using oil or gas. The committee will also bring together government groups to reach the country’s climate goals and boost non-oil and non-gas projects.
