The Kano State House of Assembly has dissolved all four additional Emirates Councils created in 2019 under the administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The dissolution of the affected Emirates is a sequel to a resolution of the House to review the law creating the councils during plenary on Thursday.
The House approved the creation of four new councils in 2019, namely: Bichi, Rano,Gaya and Karaye in addition to the existing Kano Emirate. The legislation was purportedly conceived to whittle the powers of the then Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.
Sanusi was subsequently deposed.
In repealing the law, Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Butu, explained that it would revive the lost glory of Kano as the division of Kano Emirate to five reduced the capacity and dignity of the state at the national level.
The Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Dala, said that the Emirate Council served as a custodian of culture which was distorted by the creation of the four additional emirates.
With the amendment of the law, all four new Emirate Councils were abolished leaving only the Kano Emirate.
