Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has implemented a significant cabinet reshuffle, which includes the abolition of the Chief of Staff (CoS) position and the removal of several key officials.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf confirmed that the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, was also relieved of his duties, citing health reasons.
The governor explained that the restructuring aims to realign his administration for improved efficiency and to deliver greater dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State.
“The Chief of Staff, Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, whose office has been abolished, and Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who has been removed on health grounds, are among those affected by the reshuffle,” the statement read.
Key Retentions and Reassignments
The governor retained several commissioners, including:
- Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi: Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
- Dr Danjuma Mahmoud: Commissioner for Agriculture
- Dr Abubakar Labaran: Commissioner for Health
- Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar: Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning
- Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon: Commissioner for Budget and Planning
- Engr. Marwan Ahmad: Commissioner for Works and Housing
- Sefiyanu Hamza: Commissioner for Solid and Mineral Resources
- Shiekh Ahmad Tijani Auwal: Commissioner for Religious Affairs
- Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso: Commissioner for Youth and Sports
- Adamu Aliyu Kibiya: Commissioner for Investment and Commerce
- Major General Mohammad Inuwa Idris (Rtd.): Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services

Governor Yusuf also removed five commissioners from the cabinet:

- Baba Dantiye: Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs
- Aliyu Yammedi: Commissioner for Special Duties
- Abbas Sani: Commissioner for Rural and Community Development
The affected officials, including the Chief of Staff, were directed to report to the governor’s office for potential reassignment.
Governor Yusuf emphasised that the changes were necessary for strengthening administrative performance and aligning the government’s priorities with the needs of Kano State.
