Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, has offered automatic employment to graduates of the state’s foreign scholarship programme in engineering, medicine, pharmacy, and other health-related fields.
The initiative, announced on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, will address critical workforce shortages while supporting the state’s development agenda.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries, who recently returned to Nigeria, were welcomed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam, commissioners, and senior government officials.
The programme, a flagship initiative of the Kano State Government, funded 1,000 postgraduate scholarships, with 420 students achieving first-class honours from universities in India, Uganda, and other countries. These include India’s Sharda University (150 graduates), Mewar University (98 graduates), Symbiosis University (58 graduates), Kalinga University (30 graduates), Uganda’s Islamic University (33 graduates), and 110 graduates from other institutions.
At a reception for the scholars, Governor Yusuf commended their dedication and academic success. He emphasised the programme’s impact on alleviating shortages in critical sectors, particularly healthcare, while enhancing infrastructure and services across the state.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to harnessing the graduates’ skills to advance Kano’s development.
The automatic employment scheme ensures that the knowledge and skills gained abroad will be utilised to strengthen the state’s economy and infrastructure. This initiative is also expected to inspire further investment in education and youth empowerment programmes, marking a significant step toward sustainable development in Kano State.
