Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has launched an investigation into reported salary discrepancies affecting civil servants, including underpayments and non-payments. Expressing his deep concern over these allegations, he condemned the actions as a violation of workers’ rights and a breach of public trust, vowing to hold those responsible accountable.
The governor has established a high-powered investigative committee to determine the causes of these irregularities, whether due to technical errors or deliberate misconduct.
The committee, comprised of government officials and financial experts, is tasked with auditing the state’s payroll from October 2024 to February 2025. Their mandate includes identifying affected workers, quantifying the financial impact, and recommending corrective and punitive measures.

Chaired by Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam, the Commissioner for Rural & Community Development, the seven-member committee has been given a strict seven-day deadline to submit its findings.
Governor Yusuf has assured civil servants of his administration’s commitment to justice and transparency, emphasising the importance of prompt and accurate salary payments. He warned that anyone found guilty of exploiting workers would face severe consequences, stating that the era of worker exploitation is over.
The committee’s swift investigation aims to expose any payroll fraud, restore confidence in the state’s wage system, and protect the rights of Kano’s civil servants. The committee was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, on behalf of Governor Yusuf.
