The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has reorganised his cabinet, eliminated the position of Chief of Staff (CoS), and dismissed Abdullahi Bichi as Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
On Thursday, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, announced during a press conference.
The restructuring is a component of Governor Yusuf’s plan to realign his administration for “optimum performance” and provide Kano State residents with “more dividends of democracy,” the statement claims.
Governor Yusuf said, “This is my cabinet’s first significant reshuffle, and it takes effect immediately.” “The goal was to improve administrative performance and guarantee a practical political realignment that puts Kano residents’ needs first.”
The Chief of Staff, Shehu Sagagi, was fired during the overhaul, and his position has since been eliminated. Due to health concerns, SSG Abdullahi Baffa Bichi was also dismissed.
Some commissioners were moved, while others kept their jobs in the reshuffle that touched numerous important ministries. Dr. Abubakar Labaran, Commissioner for Health; Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner for Agriculture; and Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, are among those who were kept.
The transfer of Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education is one of the notable reassignments. Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is taken over by Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman, and Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata transitions from higher education to science, technology, and innovation.
Previously in charge of humanitarian and poverty alleviation, Hon. Amina Abdullahi is currently in charge of the Ministry for Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities. Hon. Aisha Lawal Saji moves to the Tourism and Culture ministry from the same ministry.
Additionally, five commissioners were removed in the reshuffle:
Ibrahim Jibril Fagge, Ministry of Finance
Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, Ministry of Culture and Tourism
Baba Halilu Dantiye, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs
Shehu Aliyu Yammedi, Ministry of Special Duties
Abbas Sani Abbas, Ministry of Rural and Community Development
The former Chief of Staff and these former officials were instructed by the Governor to come to his office for a potential reassignment.
The governor’s dedication to enhancing governance was highlighted by Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa in a statement to reporters.
“The overhaul is a reflection of His Excellency’s determination to make sure his staff is prepared to fulfil the goals of the Kano people. “
He stated that several members had been moved to places that most needed their experience.
According to political commentators, the action is a daring attempt to reposition the administration for the upcoming challenges. According to public affairs analyst Musa Bello, it was “a strategic step to weed out inefficiency and inject fresh energy into the cabinet.”
