The Kano State Fire Service has attributed the recent fire outbreak at the popular GSM market in the state to a battery explosion.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the blaze engulfed both the ground and upper floors of a one-storey building, affecting a total of 47 shops, including several temporary structures.

Authorities have yet to disclose the full extent of losses, but the damage is believed to be substantial.
“The fire started from the ground floor of the building, burning 20 permanent shops and 13 temporary shops. It later spread to the upper floor where it destroyed another 13 shops and one temporary shop.” said the statement.
“By God’s intervention and the effort of our men, we were able to contain the fire using five jets,” the statement added.
According to the statement, no lives were lost and no one was injured during the incident.
Shop owners and residents were urged to carefully handle batteries and electrical items to avoid similar incidents in the future.
