Kano State Gov Declares State of Emergency on Education( News Central TV)

A state of emergency has been declared in the education sector of Kano State. Speaking on Monday during a training session organised for newly-appointed education secretaries in Dutse, the state’s Commissioner for Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa, stated that this action is part of a renewed effort to overhaul the sector.

Doguwa urged the education secretaries to maintain the state’s education standards, highlighting their role as representatives of the government. He also cautioned against the arbitrary transfer of teachers to the state capital for personal gain. Doguwa identified the shortage of teachers and learning materials as the major challenges facing the educational sector, assuring that the government is fully committed to resolving them.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Kabir, the Executive Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), stressed the urgency of addressing problems such as teacher and student absenteeism, low school enrollment, and insufficient community involvement and support. He acknowledged the lack of dedicated staff at the Local Education Authority (LEA) headquarters and the shortage of qualified teachers.
