The Police Command in Kano State, Northwest Nigeria, has apprehended 22 armed robbery suspects in the Dorayi area of Gwale Local Government Area of the state.
Commissioner of Police Mohammed Gumel disclosed this while addressing members of the Dorayin Karma community at a meeting regarding the resurgence of thuggery and criminal assaults on innocent residents, leading to fatalities and injuries.
CP Gumel clarified that those arrested were labelled as armed robbers and not political thugs. He stated that an additional 30 criminals were already on the command’s wanted list, urging their parents and relatives to surrender them to the police before they face arrest.
Expressing intolerance for thugs masquerading as Daba fighters to incite civil unrest, CP Gumel cautioned that parents seeking bail for their arrested children would themselves be arrested for complicity.
He announced the establishment of an anti-robbery squad in Dorayin Karma to ensure the apprehension and prosecution of all individuals involved in criminal activities. He said modern working facilities would be provided to the squad to enhance their performance.
Furthermore, CP Gumel revealed plans to deploy 100 armed policemen to the area, along with the release of 1,000 tear gas canisters, to aid in restoring peace and apprehending criminals.
Emphasising that the perpetrators were armed robbers, not mere thugs, the Commissioner stated that investigations had confirmed their involvement in criminal activities.
Among the 30 individuals on the police wanted list were Duguja, Baba Habu, Rigiji, Boris, Aminu Yankifi, Yasir, Tsasha, Kana Barrow, Audu Bagwaya, Toti, Musa Kwata, Receiver Gida Gibirawa, Baba, and Gundura Na Lutu.
Community leaders also urged the police to take strict action to combat armed robbery and against anyone found possessing arms and ammunition among the citizens.
