After a domestic altercation with his wife that resulted in the death of their 2-year-old daughter, a 38-year-old man in Kanungu District, Uganda on Sunday presented himself to the police station.
The incident allegedly took place on Saturday night around ten o’clock local time when the suspect arrived home from a social gathering with friends at Omurushasha trading centre in Mpungu Sub County, Kanungu District. He allegedly discovered his wife having sex with a different man.
After the woman’s lover left through the other door, this led to a fight between the two of them.
“The husband became enraged and grabbed a nearby stick, attacking his wife from the bed. Unfortunately, the innocent child who was sleeping on the same bed as her was instantly killed when the stick struck her. Investigations started after the suspect turned himself in at Kanungu Police Station that same night after making his getaway, according to Mr. Elly Maate, a spokesman for the Kigezi region police, on Sunday.
Fortunate Akansasira has been named as the toddler who passed away.
According to him, a murder case resulting from an assault has been filed at the Kanungu Police Station under CRB 526/2023, and the deceased’s body has been transported to the Mpungu Health Centre IV for a postmortem.
