Kebbi Donates N20Million Relief Fund to Fire Victims

Kebbi state government donated N20 million to traders who suffered substantial losses in a devastating fire incident at Argungu market in Argungu Local Government Area of state.

The fire had ravaged numerous shops, causing significant financial setbacks for the affected traders.

Governor Nasir Idris, through his Deputy, Sen. Umar Abubakar-Tafida, presented the monetary support on Thursday at the Emir of Argungu’s palace in Argungu.

The Deputy Governor said the distribution of the cash will be fair to all beneficiaries, as a standing committee will be put in place to oversee the process. He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the funds judiciously, to help them rebuild their businesses.

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Mera through his representative the Gurduden Kabi, Alhaji Ibrahim Kuldo, expressed gratitude for Governor Idris’s people-centered governance and swift response to the community’s needs, which shows his effective leadership skills.

The Chairman of Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency, Bello Yakubu-Rilisco corroborated the Emir’s words, adding that Governor Idris’s administration offered hope to its people.

“Whenever and wherever something happened, be it fire, flood, windstorm, displacement among others, His Excellency ensures that government reaches out to the affected people to cushion the effect of that disaster.

“Therefore what we are witnessing today is just one out of many other efforts of our amiable Governor.

“Let me use this medium to appeal to the beneficiaries of today’s gesture to make judicious use of the money to improve their livelihood,” Yakubu-Rilisco said.

The Chairman of Argungu Traders’ Association, Alhaji Labbon Fakon-Sarki who spoke on behalf of the affected traders, conveyed the traders’ appreciation for the state government’s timely support. He assured that the money would be used for the intended purpose.
