Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has voiced concerns about influential figures within the state working together to hinder his administration’s goals.
Speaking at the Uhola Festival and Agricultural Show in Zuru, Kebbi State on Saturday where he was Special Guest of Honour, the Governor cited instances where certain individuals allegedly influenced road development plans submitted to the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja.
“Your Royal Highness, you spoke about the bad roads in urgent need of repairs in your domain.
“It might be of interest to note that I have submitted the rehabilitation of the dilapidated KoKo-Dabai road to the Federal Ministry of Works for quick action.
“But to our surprise, someone went and changed the submission from KoKo-Dabai road to Bui-Kangiwa-Kamba road up to the border with the Republic of Niger,” he complained to the Emir of Zuru, Major–General Muhammad Sani-Sami (rtd).
Governor Idris emphasised his resolve to stay focused despite the administration’s challenges.
He also disclosed the financial commitment of his administration to security, adding that a monthly expenditure of N500 million was dedicated to addressing security challenges in the state.
This allocation, according to Idris, encompasses logistics and resources essential for equipping troops and supporting vigilante groups to effectively combat insecurity across the state.
In addition to security concerns, Governor Idris issued directives to swiftly resolve the longstanding water supply issue in Zuru town originating from the dam site.
He also stressed the importance of addressing basic infrastructure needs to improve the lives of residents.
The Governor also pledged his administration’s support for the Uhola Cultural International Festival to ensure it holds annually.
“This event has not only elevated the status of Zuru Emirate, but the entire Kebbi State.
“Promoting our culture is one of the key points of our administration and we have assured our royal fathers of our support,” he said.
“I can assure his royal highness that Uhola festival has come to stay. Every year my administration will provide money and logistics to ensure hitch-free Uhola,” he added.
