Guinean Star Keita To Miss Midtjylland Clash In Champions League

Liverpool will be without Guinean midfielder, Naby Keita, when they face Danish club, Midtjylland, in the Champions League this week.

Keita hasn’t made a matchday squad since the 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa earlier this month, but did train ahead of the game at Ajax last week.

However, the former RB Leipzig midfielder will sit out the game on Tuesday as the Reds aim to make it back-to-back wins in Group B.

The Reds will also be without Thiago Alcantara and defender Joel Matip against Midtjylland, a team which manager Juergen Klopp said, on Monday, cannot be taken lightly.

The trio join Virgil van Dijk on the sidelines. van Dijk is nursing a knee injury that may rule him out for the rest of the season.

Speaking of Midtjylland, who qualified for the Champions League group stage for the first time this season, Klopp said: “We don’t see (Midtjylland) as a small team. They are there because they earned the right to be there,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Tuesday’s match at Anfield.

“I know the story of the club, the things they tried. Very interesting project. Five years ago, in my break, I was interested to go there… to see how things are done there, but then I signed for Liverpool.

“They are really good, it’s a real challenge… They are a bit more direct in their buildup. They have really experienced defenders, good footballing midfielders, speed on the wings, physicality in the centre up front. They have a clear plan.”
