Kelechi Ndukwe has been appointed as the Commander of the United States’ Navy Guided Missile Destroyer. It is the first time a Nigerian-American will be in the position.
The new appointee graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the United States Naval War College.
He has previously served in the United States Military Base, Pentagon in Washington DC.
Ndukwe has also in the past received the Defence Meritorious Service Medal, the Marines and Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marines Corps Achievement Award.
Commander Ndukwe has worked in the past in the Navy’s destroyers, cruisers and mine counter-measures. He has also had extensive deployments to the Mediterranean Sea, Horn of Africa, Arabian Gulf, Western Pacific Ocean, and South America.
He has served in roles ashore where he worked as a liaison officer at the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs and at the Capitol Hill.
