The Kenya Red Cross has confirmed that seven people were rescued from the River Kwa Muswii following a heavy flood that swept people off the bridge on Friday.
News Central reports that a truck loaded with sand got swept into the river along with over 11 people who were on it.
The vehicle was crossing the submerged bridge on the river in the Kasikeu area of Sultan Hamud when the incident happened.
The Agency revealed those rescued were rushed to the hospital as the search for the other scores of people continued.
“Seven individuals rescued, promptly taken to Sultan Hamud Sub-County Hospital following the incident. Our response efforts remain ongoing,” said the Agency on X Friday afternoon, adding that efforts were ongoing to rescue the rest.
On Thursday, the Kenya Meteorological Department issued a heavy rainfall advisory to at least 46 counties prone to flood to stay vigilant from April 25, 2024 at 1pm to April 28, 2024 at 6pm.
Residents in these counties, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Meru were urged to stay alert for possible floods and flash floods.
