Direct flights between Tokyo and Nairobi may soon start, according to Japan’s ambassador to Kenya Okaniwa Ken. This is after speaking with Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula about areas of mutual interest between the two nations,
The ambassador, who has been serving in the nation since December 2021, said he is looking into the possibility of starting direct flights from Tokyo to Nairobi.
The two also discussed waste management techniques, manufacturing, climate change, and the Japan-Kenya technical skills and experience exchange program.
“I congratulate you for the just concluded general elections in Kenya and for your election as the Speaker of the House,” said Ambassador Okaniwa.
He said that Japan is ready to exchange programs for members of the two Houses of Parliament and that Kenya is a fantastic commercial partner.
The Japanese government has provided a significant contribution to growth in several areas, including technology, infrastructure, and motorcycles, according to Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
“Japan is an advanced market economy and there is a lot we can benchmark and collaborate between the two countries”, Said Speaker Wetang’ula.
He was especially grateful for the part the Tokyo International Conference on Africa Development (TICAD) played in providing a platform for international thought-exchange and education.
Speaker Wetang’ula offered his condolences to the Japanese people for the passing of their Prime Minister in August of this year, calling it a significant loss for the nation, during the meeting.
The National Diet, a bicameral legislative body, is used in Japan. A Lower House called the House of Representatives and an Upper House called the House of Councilors make up the Diet. It is the State’s only legislative body.
Meanwhile, Kenya and Germany are collaborating in various sectors to bolster bilateral ties between both nations.
A visiting German team met with Moses Wetang’ula, Speaker of the National Assembly, on Monday afternoon.
Sebastian Growth, the German ambassador to Kenya, and his staff claimed that among other important areas, trade, education, tourism, agriculture, and security are areas where the two nations can cooperate.
When discussing the history of relations between Kenya and Germany, the envoy urged the two nations to work even more together to forge strong alliances and close economic links that would strengthen existing relationships.
