A Ksh 100Million Bridge built by the Kajiado County Government in Kenya has collapsed just one week after it was unveiled by county Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.
Locals say that the bridge was knocked down by the severe rains that have been seen in the area, and that the remaining pillars are still weak.
On Thursday, February 17, Kajiado Governor Ole Lenku commissioned the bridge, which cost Ksh 100 million to build, according to the county government.
The Governor hailed the Ksh 100Million Bridge project, claiming that it would open up the region’s agricultural belt and relieve the strains caused by severe rains, which had cut off traders from carrying products.
“The bridge serves the food basket of Kajiado East, Central and South with the biggest beneficiaries being farmers and pastoralists in Eselenkei, Emashini, IItuleta, Olanti Mashuuru and Lenkisim villages.
“The old antagonizing tales of truckloads of food rotting by the river banks of Olkeriai after the rains and travellers cutting off their journey to live in neighbouring homes until the rains subsided are now over,” he wrote on his Facebook account after handing over the project to the community.
