Raila Odinga, Presidential candidate of Kenya’s Azimio La Umoja political coalition has revealed plans for his first 100 days in office as the nation’s President.
Odinga, on his fifth Presidential run said he will crash the cost of living by focusing on fuel, flour, energy and mobile data – all commodities consumed by citizens on a daily basis.
His manifesto named the Inawezekana Agenda was released on Sunday in Nairobi. He promised to bring economic revolution, social transformation and representative governance to Kenyans.
Odinga made an ambitious declaration on education, as he promised free education from nursery to tertiary schools in the country. He also vowed to employ every Kenyan teacher without a job in his first 100 days .
“We shall begin progressive investment in high level surveillance for national and wildlife parks, promote research and innovation aligned to the exploitation, utilisation, conservation and management of the environment and natural resources,”
He said Police reforms will be held importantly his administration while health workers will also live improved lives and be more productive.
He promised to help poor families through receiving compulsory transfers of Sh6000 every month.
“We shall assign at least six police officers in every police station who are trained and equipped to handle police-youth relations in order to restore the relationship between the officers and citizens to one of trust.
“As well as improve terms of service for KDF personnel and police force,
“We shall commence providing social assistance to single mothers, implement a social protection programme for unemployed youths modeled around Kazi Mtaani and review the cost of living with special focus on the pressure of fuel, unga (flour), mobile data and energy,”
Odinga’s promises have thrown fresh debates up in the East African country on who fits the bill better.
He will face current Deputy President, William Ruto in the Presidential election in August.
