The Mombasa court on Thursday charged the leader of a starvation cult, Paul Nthenge Mackenzie with murder and terrorism over the deaths of at least 429 of his followers in Kenya.
The self-proclaimed pastor and founder of Good News International Ministries, along with fifty-four other suspects denied having a hand in the multiple deaths of church members, pleading “not guilty” to all charges of criminality.
Mackenzie is famed for allegedly manipulating his followers into starving to death, by telling them it is the only way to “meet Jesus”. Meanwhile, he and his disciples continue to feed fat.
He was busted in April last year after several bodies were discovered in mass graves in the Shakahola forest near the Indian Ocean.
Autopsies done on the exhumed bodies showed hunger, strangulation, beatings/strangulation as causes of death.
