Students numbering 400, from Pemwai Girls Secondary School in Baringo Central Sub County are currently on strike after a Form Two student died on Sunday morning.
The deceased, who hails from Mosoriot town, Nandi County, is said to have succumbed to death after frequent nose bleeding while at school.
The girls are protesting against the school administration, accusing the school management of laxity as the student had been ill while at school for a while.
Some students who preferred to remain anonymous said the principal, Lorna Tuitoek has denied the girl access to specialised medical care.
“Despite teachers trying to get the girl get better medication elsewhere, the principal refused all efforts,” some students said.
The girls had to trek a five-kilometre journey through Tereben and Chebartikon forest risking their lives as they demanded justice for the girl.
After setting foot at Kabarnet town, they screamed and wailed as they requested to be addressed by the county director of education.
Police in Kabarnet were deployed to contain the situation and they managed to keep the students at Kabarnet Stadium in the cold.
Sources also revealed that the school nurse has been reportedly offering poor services to the girls. Learning has now halted in the institution.
