Kenya’s President William Ruto and Raila Odinga have signed a framework agreement between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at KICC in Nairobi.
The agreement aims to address Kenya’s social, economic, and political challenges through a ten-point agenda.
The deal includes the full implementation of the National Dialogue Committee report, strengthening devolution, ensuring inclusivity in government appointments and resource allocation, and promoting youth empowerment through economic opportunities.
It also focuses on tackling corruption, eliminating wastage of public resources, and conducting an audit of the national debt.
Additionally, it guarantees the right to peaceful protests and seeks to prevent conflicts of interest in leadership.

During the signing, President Ruto emphasised the need for unity, stating that while political parties may have different strategies, they share a common goal of national transformation.
“Never before have Kenyans expressed such a yearning for change that leaves no one behind. While our political parties may differ in political strategy, we share a common goal. We must embark on a bold and radical move for national transformation; this is the path towards the promised land.
“This moment is unlike any other. It is not enough; we must rise above,” he said.
The President reiterated his commitment to auditing Kenya’s public debt, a move he had previously attempted but now hopes to achieve through a broader approach.

This agreement marks a significant moment in Kenya’s political landscape, bringing together key leaders from both sides of the political divide.
Whether it will lead to lasting reforms remains to be seen, but the collaboration between the two parties signals a shift in the country’s governance approach.
