Four electoral commissioners in Kenya were suspended by President William Ruto after they refused to certify the results of the most recent presidential election, which he won.

The four officials could be fired from their positions as a result of the tribunal’s investigation into them for flagrant misbehavior, major violations of the law, and incompetence, according to Ruto’s announcement on Friday.

However, Ruto’s action has been denounced by opposition leader Raila Odinga as part of a government scheme to rig the 2027 elections.

“The four are being forced out because Ruto and his administration wants a clean slate at the IEBC [Kenya’s electoral commission] and fill it with its stooges and henchmen for the 2027 elections. wants to wants to rig the 2027 elections in 2022,” Odinga said.

Following a recommendation from the national assembly to suspend the commissioners due to their behavior during the August elections, Ruto announced the tribunal. Ruto was proclaimed the victor when just 50.5% of the vote separated him from Odinga.

However, four out of the seven commissioners, including the vice-chairperson, declared the results to be “opaque” and the tally to be incorrect.
