As general elections in Kenya are approaching, the undeniable tension between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his vice-president, William Ruto beginning to heighten.
President Kenyatta has reportedly told his Ruto to resign, alleging that he has not done enough for his country as vice president, following his constant criticisms of the government he is a part of, and his conspicuous absence from duty.
Shortly after the president’s comment, Ruto took to his twitter handle to lash out:
“Sorry my Boss.I feel your pain.Those you assigned my responsibilities and ‘project’ mzee have let you down miserably.They bangled our BIG4, killed our party and wasted your second term.Wao ni bure kabisa. Boss, I am available. Just a phone call away. Sadly, last cabinet was two years ago,” he tweeted.
Elections are due in August, and vice president Ruto is running to succeed Kenyatta. It is believed that the falling out happened largely due to President Kenyatta’s decision to back opposition leader, Raila Odinga, instead his vice, William Ruto. Ruto became embittered and began to criticise the government at any slight chance.
The two met recently at the burial of former head of state Mwai Kibaki, and Ruto avoided any form of interaction with Kenyatta; not even a handshake.
Kenya has been experiencing serious economic crisis, which seems to be a major issue in the run-up to the elections. Kenya is currently facing record levels of inflation, with prices of basic commodities such as cooking oil and fuel escalating by the hour.
