Kenya’s Ministry of Health, through the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has recalled the Tamedol oral solution (Paracetamol oral solution, 120mg/5m1, 60 mls) after it received complaints about the quality of the oral drug.
This is coming after the PPB received several market complaints regarding the quality of many batches of the paracetamol oral solution called Tamedol.
Manufactured by a Kenyan pharmaceutical company, the oral syrup is popularly used to relieve aches and fever in children.
The PPB directed chemists to suspend the purchase or sale of the branded drug and urged the public to return any stocks to the nearest hospital.
Tamedol becomes the ninth in a growing list of medicines recalled by the regulator this year alone.
Also, the PPB issued a warning about suspected substandard and adulterated batches of Visipaque, a drug used in the diagnoses of internal organ disorders.
The warning was issued after the said products which were manufactured in China and Ireland, got smuggled into the country, without proper clearance.
