Kenyan Atheists Lure New Members with Medical Freebies

In a drive to register new members, the Atheists In Kenya Society (AIK) is offering medical and funeral coverage.

The group suffered a blow recently when its national secretary, Seth Mahiga, resigned after becoming a Christian.

AIK is now asking anyone who is “atheist, agnostic, free thinker, humanist or sceptic” to join and pay a membership fee in order to get medical and funeral coverage.

Pew Research reports that 97% of Kenyans identify with a religion.

There is a lot of coverage in the local news about AIK’s views on different issues related to religion.

AIK secretary Mahiga resigned from his position in 2021, one and half years after joining the society.

Through an official statement, Seth stated he was no longer interested in promoting atheism in Kenya after finding Jesus Christ.

The AIK president Harrison Mumia, thanked Seth for his dedication while working at the society and wished him all the best in his new chapter.

“We wish Seth all the best in his newfound relations with Jesus Christ. We thank him for having served the society with dedication over the last one and half years,” said Harrison.
